Client from
I started at Vision Willoughby in 2011 (34 years old; circa 135 kgs).
Up until I had a knee injury playing rugby union in 2006 (I was 29 at the time) I had always been an active and sporty person. I subsequently had two knee surgeries on my knee (1) ACL (2) High Tibial Osteotomy. These surgeries were devastating for me - my main passion and hobby was prematurely (in my view) taken away from me! I was, I think, depressed and I began a 5 year period of social indulgence. It was also a time (2006 to 2011) that my wife (Audre) and I had three beautiful kids (Lucas, Ethan & Anna). I was not the best father or husband (at least in my eyes) in these early stages and I was extremely absorbed by my own spiralling indulgences. Audre got me through this period - we're still together and are more in love today than we have ever been. I am also happy to report I am definitely a better father as well.
In 2011, Audre (somehow) steered me into making an appointment with Vision. I remember walking up the stairs at the old Willoughby Rd studio thinking "Jesus I am unfit". I was puffing before my fitness assessment. I literally learnt how to run again in 2011 as my knee was so weak and I had done absolutely nothing about it for about 5 years.
My first Vision trainer was Mark Jackson AKA "Wacko Jacko". Even though I have trained with so many wonderful trainers over the last 7 years I credit him to finding my fitness mojo i.e. my desire to maintain a reasonably active lifestyle of training at least 3 - 5 hrs per week. Thanks Mark.
Vision set a spark off, a desire to challenge myself and with every challenge conquered the challenge stakes have been raised over and over again. I have not failed yet.
From 2011 to 2018 I have undertaken and completed the following personal challenges:
2013 - Trekked Mt Kilimanjaro, Kenya
2013 - Corporate Black Tie Boxing Event
2015 - Kokoda Track
2016 - Sydney 100km Oxfam - 27.09hrs
2018 - Brisbane 100km Oxfam - 21.55hrs
2018 - Melbourne 100km Oxfam - 20.37hrs
2018 - Sydney 100km Oxfam - 23.50hrs
2011 to 2018 - Various Client versus Trainer Events (I do love terrorising the "red" shirts)
In addition to the above, I take on the Perth 100km Oxfam on 7 October 2018.
I turn 41 this year and I weigh 124kg today. I have always been a big lad so weight by scales doesn't worry me but I can honestly say I am fitter, healthier and happier than I was in 2011.
Vision is now part of what I do every week & I enjoy it immensely.
