Work, family, social plans... life gets full. Here are six simple meal planning tips to keep your nutrition on track, even when your calendar looks like a game of Tetris.

Let’s be honest: nobody wakes up thinking, ‘I can’t wait to spend my whole Sunday meal prepping.’ Between early meetings, the commute, the kids and the ‘just one drink’ catch-ups, healthy eating is usually the first thing to get bumped. But eating well doesn’t take hours. Here are six tips our Bondi Junction clients swear by.

1. Plan your week (10 minutes, we promise)

No colour-coded spreadsheet required. Just jot down roughly what you’ll eat and write a shopping list. When you already know what’s for dinner, the 8pm ‘what do I eat?’ scramble disappears and you’re far less likely to default to the delivery app.

2. Cook once, eat twice

Roast a big tray of veggies, throw something in the slow cooker, or simply make double at dinner and pop the leftovers in a container for tomorrow’s lunch. Past-you doing future-you a favour is the easiest win going.

3. Build your meals around protein and plants

If you only do one thing from this list, start here. Protein supports muscle maintenance and recovery, and it becomes even more important as we age, helping keep us strong and independent. It’s a big reason we pair nutrition with strength training. Pick a protein (eggs, chicken, fish, Greek yoghurt, tofu or legumes), then add colour: aim to fill about half your plate with veggies or salad for the fibre, vitamins and minerals that keep you full and energised.

4. Stock your ‘emergency meal’ kit

It’s 8:30pm, you’ve just walked in the door, and your energy is near zero. Keep a few no-brainer options on hand: eggs, tinned tuna, microwave rice, frozen veggies and wholegrain wraps.

Try a two-minute veggie omelette (2 to 3 eggs, a handful of veg and a sprinkle of cheese) or a tuna rice bowl (microwave rice, tinned tuna, frozen peas and a squeeze of lemon).

5. Pack your snacks

A busy day is easier when you’ve got something with you. Keep a piece of fruit, a couple of boiled eggs, a tub of Greek yoghurt with berries, or a True protein bar in your bag.

6. Aim for consistency, not perfection

Some days won’t go to plan. That happens to everyone, including your trainers, and it’s completely normal. No single meal makes or breaks your progress. What matters is what you do consistently over weeks and months. If you grab takeaway, enjoy it, add some veg or protein if you can, and carry on with your next meal as usual. There’s no need to make up for it.
