The largest barrier most people ever face when first coming to the gym is feeling insecure and expecting that they already need to be good at it before they come in or that they already need to be in shape before starting.

Feeling self-conscious when starting anything for the first time is completely normal and something that everyone who was ever great at that thing has experienced as well. So why would getting in shape or beginning to exercise be any different? Unfortunately, this is a barrier a lot of people never get past.

So today I’m here to share some of my top tips when it comes to defeating the scariness of starting your health and fitness journey.

  • Shift Your Perspective: Most people at the gym are focused on their own workouts, not judging others. Don't create a story in your head about what they might be thinking.
  • Find Your Support System: Surround yourself with positive people who inspire you on your health journey. Ask a friend to join you or connect with supportive online communities.
  • Embrace the Beginner Stage: Everyone starts somewhere! Remember, all the successful fitness individuals were once beginners who weren't afraid to make mistakes and learn.
  • Focus on the Journey: Enjoy the process of growth and change, not just the end result. Celebrate small victories and remember, progress is more fun than perfection!
