It took a push from my husband to get me to join Vision 7 months ago.  I had wanted to improve my fitness and my health for some time, but I was struggling to do it on my own.  Two bad knees and a shoulder injury kept me from doing more than just walking and swimming. Too many hours at work meant there was no time for exercise.   My diet was a disaster. I was 4 kgs overweight and stress kept me from sleeping through the night.   I loved to run, but didn't feel I could do it anymore.   I despised lifting weights and doing squats.   Vision had their hands full when I walked in the door. 

From the first day, I felt at home at Vision in Mosman. The staff encouraged me to get a clear picture of my starting point and then focus on what I wanted to achieve.   During my first session with Katie, we agreed that our first priority had to be physio for my shoulder and knees.  I will forever be grateful to Katie for calling my physiotherapist to consult on how she could best support my recovery.  Within 6 weeks, my shoulder pain was gone, and I was doing shoulder presses and push ups.   By week 8, my knees were better not because we were avoiding squats but because we were doing lots of them.    With knees on the mend, I started running short distances on the treadmill, joined Joe and Brad for Wednesday's Running Club (thanks for encouraging me, guys) and completed a 5K in February, an 8K in May, and the Mini-Mos 10K in June.   It had been 15 years since I had run a 10K.  Who says you can't get fit after 50!   

Today I am 4 kgs lighter, 10 centimetres smaller in my waist, and 2% lower in body fat.  I still don't love weight lifting or lunges, but I understand why they are an important part of my program.   I spend a little less time at the office, drink more water, eat more protein, and exercise a whole lot more.   From the bottom of my heart, thank you Katie.  Your weekly texts motivated me and encouraged me to keep going.   You were in my corner from day one and with your support and friendship I have found a way to put "me" back into the equation again. I could have never done it without you.
