A hot topic outside the fitness industry (also inside the fitness industry for those that are a little behind everyone else) is whether or not you should consume artificial sweeteners while trying to lose weight. After reading an outstanding article from industry expert Layne Norton, PhD - I thought I would set the record straight.

Recent data from Toews et al. (2019) shows that:

- People that consumed artificial sweeteners did not weight more than those who didn't.

- Artificial sweeteners did not lead people to be hungrier or eat more.

- Artificial sweeteners did not elevate the risk of various forms of cancer.

If you're trying to lose weight or simply reduce the total calories consumed, going for the sugar free soda is a quick and easy decision that you shouldn't feel guilty about making.
