You never really know where a journey will take you when you first begin. When I joined Vision Bangor and started training with Jack Hyslop, my goal was simple: lose weight.

At the beginning, it was all about learning the basics—tracking my food, attending weekly weigh-ins, understanding macros, and learning how to use weights correctly. I quickly realised that achieving results wasn’t just about exercising; it was equally about making better choices with what I ate and understanding how nutrition and training worked together.

The seminars and classes run by Vision were incredibly valuable throughout the process. They provided education, motivation, and regular reminders of what was needed to stay on track. Looking back, what started as a weight-loss journey became so much more than I ever expected.

I always assumed that once I reached my goal weight, that would be it, and I would simply maintain what I had achieved. Instead, reaching that milestone completely changed my outlook on life. By then, I had developed a new mindset and found myself asking, “What’s my next challenge?”

Those goals continue to evolve, whether it’s lifting heavier weights, completing 10 km runs with the fantastic girls I have met at Vision, or pushing myself in ways I never thought possible. The goal sessions with Jack keep me accountable and encourage me to think outside the box about what I can achieve.

More importantly, the lessons I’ve learned have extended far beyond the gym. This journey has made me stronger not only physically but mentally as well. It has taught me that I’m capable of far more than I ever imagined and that sometimes the greatest achievement isn’t the goal you started with—it’s the person you become along the way.

I have also had friends and acquaintances make positive changes to their own lives in relation to fitness and weight loss because they could see what I had achieved. One person even told me that I had inspired them, and I don’t think anyone had ever said that to me before. It made me realise that you never truly know how something you do or say can positively impact someone else’s life.
