I felt sluggish, and my mindset was not very positive. I also had very little tolerance (was a total grumpy bum) and refused to have any photos taken of me.
I was in complete denial as I had maintained a high level of fitness for years and had slowly let it go. In the absence of any recent photos of me, I did not realise how bad the situation had become. I saw what I wanted to see in the mirror, seeing myself in a photo was too hard to deal with. I also struggled to find time to prioritise 'me', I had an excuse for everything. It was not until I was diagnosed with cancer that I realised how important my health was and I was determined to look after it from that point on and never take it for granted again.
It wasn't hard to get back on track and it blows my mind to realise how much better I operate - on all levels - when my weight, health and state of mind are where they should be (or at least heading in the right direction). I have also been reminded that by making time to prioritise myself while still working, having cancer treatment, and managing a whole lot of other things is possible. That is, I have found that the more energy I expend, the more energy I have and therefore the more I get done. It also helped immeasurably in my recovery from surgeries and treatments, not just physically but mentally as well.
I have gone back to Vision PT as I know from experience that the system works. Having access to a PT who keeps you accountable, develops a program specific for you and nutritional advice to go with it makes all the difference to me. Building a friendship with Kevin (my PT) also makes a huge difference in getting me to reach my goal. I feel like Kevin is in it for the whole journey with me, I have never felt like a 'client'.
It is the best investment you will ever make, never take your health for granted. I do not believe there is a single person who is not capable of a transformation (in whatever form it takes). It may not be easy at first, but it will get easier soon after when you start to feel the results, and then others start to see them. It will become an integral part of your life and you will never understand why you did not do it sooner. All you need to do is make the decision, commit to it, and be patient.
