Obviously, it is a very exciting time when you hit a goal in life that you may have been aiming at for some time……however, it can also be a very dangerous time.

Whilst I'm a massive believer in celebrating your victories via some form of reward, whether it be a gift, nice meal out, holiday, clothes etc…. it's vitally important to make sure that you have already set a secondary goal to keep you moving forwards.

My recommendation is that whilst you are on the journey toward achieving your primary goal, you should really start having a think about what you would like to achieve next.  If you DON'T have another goal, it's almost certain that you will rebound back into old habits within a certain period of time, for some people this can happen quite quickly.  Examples may be:

"I want to lose 10kg" - once achieved there is nothing in place for a secondary goal and then a few of those kilos start to creep back on.

By having a secondary goal in place, such as "increase fitness to run 5km", or "tone up more through my mid section",  it will help keep you looking forwards and your foot on the accelerator, so that way there will be no "unwanted" kilos coming back on.  It doesn't matter how big or small you think your goal is, either way, it's YOUR goal so make sure you do your best to achieve it.

So, if you want to maintain the results that you have achieved and continue to move forwards, just make sure that you have either a goal or event to help keep you focused.

Lastly, don't be afraid to "move the goal posts" if needed.  There's nothing wrong with altering a goal over time if the need arises.  "Set your goals in sand, not concrete!"
