Whether you are a beginner, getting back into it from some time off, post injury, or simply struggling with every day habits, it can be quite daunting and frustrating to start exercising and eating healthy again. You may feel like it is all too hard, or you may feel like you can't stick to a routine but I can assure you we have all been there.

Find Your 'Why'

Ask yourself the hard questions. Dig deep into your feelings and understand why you are doing this. There will most certainly be a specific reason, or maybe even more as to why this means so much to you. Whatever your reason is, I am positive that it is stronger than what is holding you back.

Make Starting Easier

Don't set unrealistic goals or expectations and don't be so hard on yourself. Doing this is going to make it so much harder for yourself.

For example ideally you may want to be exercising 6 days a week but you know that you haven't exercised in a few months. Instead of pushing yourself and setting such a high expectation and goal for your first week back, start slow. Start with exercising 3 times for the first week.

Start Now

Think, if you start now, imagine where you would be in just 8 weeks' time? Many people without knowing set themselves up for failure before starting. You'll hear people say 'I'll start Monday', or 'Í have my birthday next month so there's no point starting now'. Planning to start doesn't count as planning, because most of the time it doesn't get followed through. I have never heard of anyone regretting starting that same or the next day.

Be Self-Aware

Be self-aware and make sure you know yourself and who you are. Know your strengths and your weaknesses. Understand your routines, your habits, your triggers. Why do you do the things that you do?

Being self-aware is going to massively help you in accomplishing your goals and will set you up for long term success.

Stay Accountable

You are accountable for yourself, for your actions and for your own fitness journey. You are the only one stopping yourself from reaching your goals.

Tracking your progress is the most beneficial way to ensure you are keeping yourself accountable. This could look like, taking pictures, taking measurements, or recording your emotions or feelings.

Having family and friends who know your goals will also help in keeping you accountable and in check.
