As the controversy of COVID-19 continues around the world we have noticed that there has been a huge emphasis on whether exercising is safe at the moment.

The short answer is, Exercise helps boost your immune system and its response rate.

The more in detail answer is:

Physical activity may help flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. This may reduce your chance of getting a cold, flu, or other illness.

Exercise causes change in antibodies and white blood cells (WBC). WBCs are the body's immune system cells that fight disease. These antibodies or WBCs circulate more rapidly, so they could detect illnesses earlier than they might have before. However, no one knows whether these changes help prevent infections.

The brief rise in body temperature during and right after exercise may prevent bacteria from growing. This temperature rise may help the body fight infection better. (This is similar to what happens when you have a fever.)

Exercise slows down the release of stress hormones. Some stress increases the chance of illness. Lower stress hormones may protect against illness.

Studies have shown that people who follow a moderately energetic lifestyle, benefit most from starting (and sticking to) an exercise program. A moderate program can consist of:

  • Going to the Studio
  • Partaking in low to moderate exercises such as walking/cycling
  • Group training classes 

 

Exercise makes you feel healthier and more energetic. It can help you feel better about yourself. So, go ahead, take part in a class, go for that walk and keep up your Personal Training weight sessions. You will feel better and healthier for it.

A lot of people have also stated that going to the gym is unsafe at the moment, and that may be true as gyms are big places with a large amount of people, however at Vision Personal Training we have small friendly studios where everyone knows your name, so we know exactly who our clients are, if they have travelled and we are also never crowded which in turn keeps your immune system safe and strong.
