We see it on the news every day: Obesity rates are up, diabetes is more prevalent than ever, the major cost of providing health care to the increased number of sick people.  Today we are more unhealthy than ever before.  Do you want to be a part of this ever growing number of sick and unproductive people?  Do you truly believe you can beat the battle with diabetes on your own?  If the answer to both of those questions is no, then you may well need a Personal Trainer.  Below are 10 reasons why you need help to fight the battle of the bulge.

1. EDUCATION

A qualified, educated personal trainer is your ticket to sifting through the misinformation that is constantly in the media regarding the "newest weight loss aid" or "juice diet".  Finding solid, science based fundamental principles and applying them consistently is the best way to achieve long term success.  A Personal trainer will be able to guide you on the best ways to do things, then educate you as to why/how it works.

2. MOTIVATION

We all at some point in time go through lulls in motivation; hitting snooze on the alarm, missing a cardio session or indulging in the extra slice of dessert.  A PT will help to motivate you to set engaging, scary exciting goals that will help you keep that motivation long term, creating success. 

3. ACCOUNTABILITY

Having someone to constantly report to with food diaries, scheduled exercise sessions and weekly goals provides an extrinsic source of motivation and positive/negative reinforcement.  It has been said the best way to succeed in achieving goals is to have someone keep you accountable to putting the actions in place.

4. SAFETY

Exercising with a Personal trainer means you will be performing all exercises correctly and safely, therefore reducing the risk of injury. 

5. STRUCTURE AND PLANNING

A goal without a plan is simply a wish.  Working with a personal trainer to design an individualised plan for your goal is the best way to achieve.  Simply putting the shoes on and going for a run will not improve your cardio fitness, but planning a running program based on progressions of intensity and duration definitely will.

6. HAVING A MENTOR

In order to achieve a goal, often it is best to find someone currently excelling in that field and speak to them.  A mentor will guide you on all the highs and lows, whilst showing you the best path to follow.  Having a sounding board to ask questions of someone who may have lived throught that very scenario is fantastic, as you can get real-world answers to your questions.

7. YOUR OWN PERSONAL CHEERLEADER

Having a pt is like having your number 1 fan constantly around you trying to help you achieve your goals.  A PT will always work hard to give you the beliefe you are on the right track and support you on your journey

8. A PT WILL PUSH YOU OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE CONSTANTLY

At the very edge of our comfort zone lies a place of growth and success.  A PT will always keep trying to push you slightly out of this comfort zone to help you achieve things you may not have even thought possible.  Setting ongoing goals will help avoid plateau and keep you consistently having a feeling of "winning"

9. AVOID YO-YO HABITS

A PT will always work to turn your good results into a new lifestlye.  When many people achieve a good result, or finish a "diet" they slip into what they call a "maintainance phase".  In this maintainace phase usually exercise and food habits will slip, leading to all the hard work becoming undone.  Creating lifestyle habits mean you will consistently be getting fitter and healthier, enabling you to build a healthy lifestyle and avoid the many common lifestyle diseases plagued by modern society.

10. YOU WILL DEVELOP AS A PERSON

Through this period of working and achieving with a trainer, you will also undergo a journey of learning about yourself and becoming a better version of you.  Constantly setting new goals, pushing a little harder, learning time management skills, having a mentor to guide you will all help in this transformation of yourself.  It's only during a period of change or growth where you can really look to become the best version of you that you can be.
